Final ‘Karstival‘ Broadcast Honors René Karst Today on Radio Drenthe
Today marks the end of an era for Dutch radio as Radio Drenthe airs the final Karstival broadcast, a tribute to the beloved René Karst who passed away November 21st at age 59. Tommas Eggens will host the special two-hour program, promising a show reflecting the cheerful spirit of the late singer and entertainer.
Karstival, a long-running staple on radio drenthe, was synonymous with Karst’s infectious energy and dedication to both music and social causes. The broadcast serves as a final farewell for fans and colleagues, offering a chance to celebrate his life and legacy. Listeners can tune in from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM to hear memories, anecdotes, and musical tributes.
Eggens described the broadcast as ”a show with a laugh and a tear,” aiming to capture the blend of joy and warmth that defined Karstival.He will be joined by Andries Jelle de Jong, Karst’s longtime showbiz reporter on the show, to reminisce about memorable moments, including Karst’s famous jacket collection and iconic green glasses.
Singer Stef Ekkel, who collaborated with Karst on the hit song Rather too thick in the box, will also appear. The program will feature contributions from listeners sharing their personal encounters and cherished memories of Karst.
Musically, the broadcast will span Karst’s diverse catalog, from upbeat party anthems and his country album to songs he personally enjoyed, including artists like Hans Vermeulen and The Beach Boys. Beyond his musical career, Karst was a passionate advocate for social issues, serving as an ambassador for the reading and Writing Foundation and supporting the cliniclowns.
