Banijay UK and Fudge Park Productions are bringing back The Inbetweeners after a ten-year hiatus. The iconic British comedy is set to return to screens, though the format – whether a TV series or film – remains undisclosed.
The revival comes as Banijay, which acquired the original production company Bwark Productions through its purchase of Zodiak Media in 2016, teams up with Fudge Park Productions, founded by The Inbetweeners creators Iain Morris and damon Beesley in 2015. The series initially aired on Channel 4’s E4 in 2008, followed by a second season in 2010, and two subsequent films in 2011 and 2014, both of which topped the UK box office.
While Banijay has not confirmed specifics, a movie set in Las Vegas has been teased.A potential stage adaptation is also under consideration. “Incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favorite friends (ooh friends),” Morris and Beesley commented.
Banijay UK CEO Patrick Holland stated, ”I have worked with Damon and Iain on a number of Fudge Park projects over the years and was delighted to pick up the conversation about the future of The Inbetweeners with them. They have an infectious creative vision for the brand which will resonate with audience old and new so I can’t wait to get going.”
Last August, actor Joe Thomas, who played Simon, indicated that he and co-stars James Buckley (Jay), Simon Bird (Will), and Blake Harrison (Neil) were open to a third film. Thomas shared on the Always Be Comedy podcast that the group is “still around, still in each other’s lives,” and ”if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it.” He suggested a Las Vegas stag do as a potential storyline.
