Hospital Honored for Community Care Initiatives

A hospital has been recognized internationally for its efforts in enhancing access to healthcare and addressing health disparities. The institution’s staff were presented with the Alliance Medical Health Inequalities Award at the Royal College of Physicians’ Excellence in Patient Care Awards.

This recognition highlights the hospital’s commitment to shifting healthcare delivery from traditional hospital settings to community-based models. This approach aims to improve patient outcomes and reduce inequalities in healthcare access.

A spokesperson for the Department of Health & Social Care emphasized the importance of this shift, stating, “If we are to get patients cared for faster…then we need to shift the focus of the NHS from hospitals to the community.” The department is actively promoting the integration of various healthcare professionals, including nurses, doctors, social care workers, pharmacists, and health visitors, to collaborate and deliver extensive care within local communities.

dr. Mike Blaber noted that palliative care services have been provided in patients’ homes for several years,indicating a long-standing dedication to community-based care.
