The Hague: Houses & Vehicles Damaged in Explosion & Fire
An explosion and subsequent fire at a parked van on the Van Zeggelenlaan in The Hague overnight caused significant damage to nearby homes and vehicles, local authorities reported Sunday morning.
The incident, which occurred in the Mariahoeve en Marlot neighborhood, involved a commercial vehicle that ignited after a loud blast. Multiple windows in surrounding residences were shattered, and at least one building sustained substantial structural damage. Emergency services responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.
While the cause of the explosion remains under investigation, police have not ruled out foul play. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as they become available.
The December 7, 2024 explosion in the same city, which resulted in six fatalities and four injuries, is being investigated for a possible connection, though authorities have not confirmed any link. That earlier incident, which destroyed five apartment flats, led to the arrest of several individuals from Roosendaal and Oosterhout, identified as Moshtag Barekzai, Ilyas, Mourad, and Adil.
The Van Zeggelenlaan remains partially closed as investigators assess the extent of the damage and gather evidence. Residents affected by the blast are being assisted by local authorities and emergency services.
