by Emma Walker – News Editor

A Bloomberg analysis of satellite imagery has identified nearly 350 locations in Gaza where waste has accumulated since the conflict began, highlighting a notable environmental challenge.

One such site is Souk Feras, a former marketplace now reportedly holding an estimated 200,000 metric tons of refuse. The Bloomberg team’s assessment indicates that these newly designated waste disposal areas collectively cover over 1 square kilometer. Of these sites, approximately 60% are situated near temporary shelters, and 15% are located in proximity to water sources, sanitation facilities, or other “hygiene sites.” Further details and visual evidence are available through the original Bloomberg report.
