Simrishamn Municipality is preparing to conduct a new geotechnical inquiry to identify choice solutions for erosion issues affecting the popular Knäbäckshusen beach. In the interim, efforts to deter visitors from approaching the unstable slopes are ongoing.

“I’ve contacted our operational unit. They are scheduled to come and secure the fence,” stated Linda Larsson.

Fact. Why advice, not a ban, at Knäbäckshusen?

A geotechnical assessment has identified a critical risk of landslides within 5 meters of the slope’s edge at Knäbäckshusen. Simrishamn Municipality has erected signage and barriers, advising a minimum distance of 15-20 meters from the slope. However, entry to the area is not formally prohibited, as only the county administrative board has the authority to issue access bans, a measure deemed needless at this time.

Formal access prohibitions are rarely implemented and are typically reserved for emergency situations, such as the E6 landslide incident in Stenungsund in 2023.
