ABC has pulled the upcoming season of “The Bachelorette” days before its scheduled premiere, following the release of a video appearing to indicate star Taylor Frankie Paul physically assaulting her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, in 2023. A Disney Entertainment Television spokesperson confirmed the decision, stating the network is “focusing on supporting the family” in light of the newly surfaced footage.

The video, published by TMZ, depicts Paul allegedly kicking and throwing chairs at Mortensen in front of her daughter. According to reports, Mortensen filed for a protective order against Paul on Thursday, though the filing was initially returned as incomplete and requires amendment, according to Salt Lake County District Court records.

The cancellation marks a swift reversal for the reality dating show, which had been set to premiere on Sunday, March 22nd. Paul, known for her presence on the Hulu series “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” had recently completed filming for the season. Production on the fifth season of “Mormon Wives” has also been paused, according to multiple reports.

Paul’s representative released a statement indicating she is “very grateful for ABC’s support” and is prioritizing the safety of her family. The statement further alleges that Paul has been a victim of “extensive mental and physical abuse” and “threats of retaliation” from Mortensen, and is now “gaining the strength to face her accuser.”

This is not the first legal entanglement between Paul and Mortensen. Paul was arrested for domestic violence in February 2023 in a separate incident involving Mortensen, an event that was documented in the first season of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” The show gained traction for its portrayal of Paul’s relationship with Mortensen and the subsequent fallout.

The fallout from the allegations has extended beyond the television networks. Cinnabon announced it was ending its planned partnerships for the new season of “The Bachelorette,” according to reports. NBC also reportedly canceled a scheduled appearance by Paul on “The Tonight Show.”
