The Babysitter 3: Renewal Status and Franchise Details
Nine years after its debut on Netflix, the horror-comedy film The Babysitter remains a streaming hit, yet fans tracking the franchise are still waiting for an official renewal status for a third installment, according to reports from thenexthint.com. What started as a Black List script by Brian Duffield turned into a cult favorite after Netflix acquired its distribution rights and released the first film on October 13, 2017.
The Ongoing Wait for Renewal Conversations
Netflix has never officially announced a third sequel for the franchise. However, production figures and cast members have expressed interest in continuing the story. During the promotional tour for Family Switch in 2023, director McG stated that renewal conversations were ongoing. He noted that the original film served as a major introduction for Samara Weaving to a wider audience, while the sequel gave a career boost to Jenna Ortega just ahead of the release of the Wednesday series. McG told podcasters that the narrative was originally structured for a three-part arc, leaving the final decision entirely up to a greenlight from the streaming platform.
Audience Reach and Ratings Across Two Films
The first movie drew a wider audience and stronger ratings than its follow-up. On IMDb, the 2017 original holds a 6.4 rating out of 10 from over 120k viewers. By contrast, the 2020 sequel, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, which premiered on September 10, 2020, received a 5.8 rating from around 60k viewers. Both features carry a TV-MA rating, blending black comedy and dark teen-slasher tropes for mature audiences. Filming for both installments took place in Los Angeles, with the first project requiring roughly two years from production to release.

Returning Cast Members Join New Additions
The franchise built its momentum on an ensemble cast that largely returned for the second chapter. Judah Lewis anchors the story as Cole Johnson, joined by Samara Weaving as Bee, Hana Mae Lee as Sonya, Emily Alyn Lind as Melanie, Robbie Amell as Max, and Bella Thorne as Allison. Supporting roles featured Ken Marino as Cole’s dad, Andrew Bachelor as John, Miles J. Harvey as Jeremy, Leslie Bibb as Cole’s mom, Doug Haley as Samuel, and Chris Wylde as Juan. For The Babysitter: Killer Queen, new additions expanded the ensemble, including Jenna Ortega as Phoebe Atwell, alongside Maximilian Acevedo as Jimmy and Juliocesar Chavez as Diego.
Plot Arc Centered on Satanic Cult Chaos
The storyline follows Cole Johnson, who discovers at age twelve that his babysitter, Bee, leads a satanic cult requiring human blood for ritualistic purposes. The sequel picks up two years later as Cole struggles to convince anyone of the supernatural bloodshed, only to find himself dragged into another nightmare during a lake party where old cultists resurface. Phoebe joins the fight in the second film, while Bee returns with a secret tied to Phoebe’s past. Both films remain available exclusively on Netflix under the horror-comedy and teen movie categories.
