Thai-Cambodian Border Soldier’s Letter: Safe Birth & Patriotic Wishes

A Soldier’s Plea from the Border: A Nation’s Heartfelt Response

KANCHANABURI, THAILAND – Amidst the lingering tension along the Thai-Cambodian border, a poignant message from the front lines has captured the nation’s attention and ignited a wave of support. A handwritten letter, penned by a soldier bravely defending Thailand‘s sovereignty, has emerged, revealing a deeply personal plea that transcends the conflict.

The letter, shared on Facebook by nurse “When SP” from Phahonphon Phayuhasena Hospital in Kanchanaburi Province, was addressed to “major category” and specifically requested contact with “elder Wan” to check on his wife, who was due to give birth on July 31st.The soldier, identified by netizens as Sergeant M Horse, expressed his anxiety, stating, “Near the birth of 31 July, have to go to sleep at the hospital.” His simple yet powerful sign-off, “Thank you from the front line. Sign the Power,” underscored the immense personal sacrifice he was making.

Nurse “When SP,” deeply moved by the soldier’s words, shared the letter online, confessing, “Read and tears flow.Don’t know how to reply. I want you to know that you don’t have to worry. This nurse will take good care of the family rather. Thank you for taking care of the nation for us.”

The situation at the border has been fraught with challenges. Despite an agreement for a ceasefire at midnight on July 28th, reports indicated that Cambodian forces did not adhere to the terms, with intermittent firing directed at the Thai side. This backdrop makes Sergeant M Horse’s dedication to his duty, even as his family faced a important life event, all the more remarkable.

In a heartwarming update, “When SP” announced that the soldier’s wife had safely delivered a healthy baby. “Strong, safe, both mother and child,” the update read, bringing immense relief and joy. The soldier, however, remains unaware of the birth due to his inability to use his phone at the front lines. The outpouring of support from netizens has been overwhelming. Congratulations have flooded in for Sergeant M Horse and his family, with many expressing gratitude to the medical team at Phahonphon Phayuhasena Hospital for their care. The collective sentiment is a fervent wish for the brave soldier to complete his mission swiftly and return home safely to embrace his newborn child. This touching exchange serves as a powerful reminder of the human stories often hidden within geopolitical conflicts, and the profound strength of community and compassion that binds a nation together.
