by David Harrison – Chief Editor

ARLINGTON, Texas ‍- no. 4 Texas Tech defeated⁤ No. 11 BYU 38-10‍ in the ⁢big 12 Championship game at AT&T Stadium on Saturday, December 6, 2025, claiming their first⁤ conference⁢ title. The Red ‌raiders ⁢mirrored their November 8th result‌ against⁤ the Cougars, holding BYU to a⁣ similar offensive output.

BYU’s opening drive resulted in a 10-yard touchdown‍ run by the Big 12 offensive player of the year, ⁣giving the Cougars a ‍7-0 lead after a 14-play, 90-yard drive. However, BYU’s offense stalled, gaining only 24 yards ‌for ‌the ‍remainder of⁣ the game.

Texas Tech responded with⁢ a 13-0 run to close the first half, taking a 13-7 lead into halftime. ‌Quarterback Morton completed 12 of 20‌ passes for 142 yards in the first half, including a 33-yard touchdown to Eakin that⁢ was initially ⁢ruled out⁤ before being overturned on review.

Turnovers proved costly for BYU, including an interception by ‍Roberts that led to an 11-yard touchdown run by Cameron⁣ Dickey, and ⁣a⁤ fumble by Romello Height that Texas Tech ⁢converted into a field goal.

LJ ⁣Martin led⁣ the Cougars (11-2) with 76 rushing yards and seven ⁤receptions for 31 yards. BYU managed only 13‌ more ‌total yards than ⁤Texas Tech’s ⁤106⁣ rushing yards⁣ and 122 passing yards.

Jacob Rodriguez, the⁤ Butkus Award winner and Heisman Trophy hopeful, anchored the ⁤Red Raiders’ defense with 13 tackles and a tackle for loss.⁣ John Curry ⁢added 10 ⁤tackles, a tackle for loss,‌ a ‌pass breakup, and a forced fumble.

BYU ⁢quarterback Ben Bachmeier was hampered ‌by a lower⁤ leg injury,‌ limiting his scrambling ability to ⁣11 yards before halftime.”He‍ was banged up. When you have a⁣ lower leg injury, that causes issues for you to‌ throw the‌ ball,” BYU coach Kalani ⁣Sitake⁤ said. “But that’s not the excuse. I mean, Ben had that one-handed snag – c’mon, man. They made some ‌amazing plays, with ‍great‍ defense and offense was‌ efficient.”

Sitake added, “I thought they just had a great game plan. They executed, ‍they never⁢ panicked. I’m just really impressed with their poise and the composure they ⁢had. ⁢When they’re at full strength and ⁣their quarterback is at full strength,⁢ they’re a dangerous team.”
