Texas Coach Steve Sarkisian denies Departure Rumors
AUSTIN,Texas – Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian emphatically stated Wednesday that he is “not going anywhere,” directly addressing recent speculation regarding his future with the programme. Sarkisian called reports suggesting he might leave the university “absolutely false and untrue,” adding he felt compelled too respond due to the importance of the issue for both the team and the university.
The clarification came after ESPN analyst Desmond Howard suggested on social media Monday that the Texas job could become available at the end of the season, hinting at a potential “mutual parting of ways.” Texas athletic director Chris del Conte responded to Howard’s post on X, formerly Twitter, stating, “This is news to me.” Sarkisian’s agents, Jimmy Sexton and Ed Marynowitz, also recently disputed a report from The Athletic that they had signaled his interest in NFL openings.
Sarkisian affirmed, “I’ve had no discussions, not with my agent, not with the university, not with any other school, not with any NFL team, about ever going anywhere else. I came here to win championships.” He highlighted his commitment to Texas, noting that two of his children currently attend the university and another may enroll next year.
as arriving at Texas,Sarkisian has compiled a 45-20 record, leading the Longhorns to College Football Playoff appearances in the past two seasons and a Big 12 title in 2023. He signed a new contract in January extending through 2031, with a current salary of $10.8 million.
Despite a strong start to the season that included a No. 1 ranking,Texas has recently suffered three losses, including a defeat at Georgia on saturday, and currently sits at No.17 in the CFP rankings. Sarkisian concluded by encouraging anyone with questions about his future to contact him or athletic director Chris Del Conte directly.
