Aggies’ Last-Second Touchdown Secures National Play of the week Honor
SOUTH BEND, IN – Texas A&M’s dramatic, game-winning 11-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Marcel Reed to tight end nate Boerkircher has been selected as the Cheez-It Crunch Time Play of the week by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). The play sealed a thrilling 41-40 victory over No.8 Notre dame on September 14th.
Facing 4th-and-goal with time dwindling, Reed delivered a precise pass to Boerkircher, who made the catch amidst a collapsing Fighting Irish defense. The touchdown culminated a 13-play, 74-yard drive that took just 2:40 to execute, overcoming back-to-back false start penalties late in the drive.Randy Bond’s subsequent extra point secured the one-point win for the Aggies in South Bend.
The decisive play came after Notre Dame had taken a 40-34 lead on a Jeremiyah Love touchdown run, though a missed extra point kept the deficit at six points. Reed’s touchdown not only changed the scoreboard but also ended Texas A&M’s 13-game road losing streak against ranked opponents.
Reed finished the game with 360 passing yards and two touchdowns.boerkircher’s game-winning catch was his only reception of the night and his third of the season. The victory marked Texas A&M’s first road win against a Top-10 team since 2014 and represented a significant win for head coach Mike Elko.
this is the second consecutive year Texas A&M has earned a national “Play of the Week” honor from the FWAA. In 2024,punter Tyler White was recognized for a strategically placed coffin-corner punt that contributed to a win over Missouri.
