Tesla scales Austin Cybercab fleet to 319 vehicles, data shows
Tesla has scaled its registered Cybercab fleet in Austin, Texas, to 319 vehicles, according to vehicle authority data cited by EVwire. The expansion marks an eightfold increase within thirty days since the two-seater autonomous vehicle launched in the city on August 31.
Austin Registrations Double in a Single Tranche
Texas vehicle authority data shows Tesla added 150 Cybercabs in a single registration tranche on October 9. The addition pushed the local Cybercab count from 169 to 319 vehicles. Tesla confirmed the milestone on X, stating that the fleet had served Austin for one month. The Texas AV Tracker, which monitors daily municipal filings, records Tesla’s total registered autonomous vehicle fleet in the state at 739 units.
The latest vehicle registrations alter the composition of the manufacturer’s regional testing fleet. Cybercabs now make up 43 percent of Tesla’s registered autonomous vehicles in Texas, up from roughly 28 percent prior to the October filing. Meanwhile, the Model Y allocation in the state remained frozen at 420 vehicles, a total it has held since late September.
Public Operations Reach One Million Unsupervised Miles
Public rides in the dedicated two-seater began on September 4 within a designated operating zone in Austin. EVwire reported that the fleet logged one million miles without human oversight by the time public service commenced. The rollout has progressed through successive batches, starting with an initial 45 Cybercabs on August 31, followed by growth to 126 vehicles by September 28, and reaching 169 prior to the October surge.
The municipal tracking data leaves several operational metrics unaddressed. Neither the vehicle authority filings nor company disclosures specify the exact daily ride volume handled by the 319 Cybercabs currently operating in Austin. Fleet utilization rates and safety metrics beyond the initial one-million-mile threshold remain undocumented by state regulators.
