A new 5G uplink speed of 516 Mbps has been achieved by Ericsson, in collaboration with Telstra and Qualcomm Technologies, marking a significant advancement in mobile network capabilities. The record-breaking speed, confirmed on February 11, 2025, surpasses previous benchmarks and demonstrates the potential for faster upload speeds for mobile users.
The achievement builds on prior successes between Telstra and Ericsson. In October 2024, the companies first reached a 5G uplink speed of 447 Mbps in a standalone 5G network, exceeding the previous record by over 100 Mbps. This latest result represents a further increase in performance.
Telstra has consistently been recognized for its mobile network performance, recently being awarded “Best in Test” and “Best in Reliability” by industry benchmarking leader umlaut for the eighth consecutive year. The 5G standalone technology underpinning these advancements is currently supported by Samsung Galaxy S23 and S24 devices.
The increased uplink speed is expected to benefit users requiring substantial upload bandwidth, such as those sharing high-resolution videos or utilizing cloud-based applications. Ericsson highlighted the achievement as a new benchmark for innovation in the telecommunications sector.
