‘Tell Me Lies‘ May Be ending After Season 3: Creator Meaghan Oppenheimer’s Husband Hints at Finality
Fans of the Hulu drama Tell Me Lies are bracing for a potential series finale as creator Meaghan Oppenheimer’s husband, actor Tom Ellis, strongly suggested the show will conclude with its upcoming third season.
The series, known for its dual timelines and complex relationships, left viewers on a cliffhanger at the end of Season 2. The finale saw Evan (Branden Cook) confessing to cheating on his wife, Bree (Cat Missal), with Lucy (Jennifer Kaytin Robinson), while Lucy’s current relationship with Stephen remains uncertain. Season 3 is expected to immediately address the fallout from this revelation and determine if Lucy will end things with Stephen.
Ellis’s comments came during a recent podcast appearance, fueling speculation that the show’s intricate narrative is nearing its natural conclusion. While neither hulu nor 20th Television have officially confirmed the ending, Oppenheimer herself previously discussed the meticulous planning involved in mapping out the storylines across both 2008 and 2015 timelines.
“I always had a sense of where they are in 2015 and what their dynamic is and what secrets everyone is holding,” Oppenheimer told Us Weekly in 2024. “But the way that we constructed it is indeed we definitely did the 2008 story line first in the room. We kind of mapped out the whole season and then we did 2015 as its own thing.” She added, “I knew where I wanted to end the season, though, in 2015. I knew where it needed to get to.”
Following the show’s renewal for a third season in December 2024, Oppenheimer signed an overall deal with 20th Television, a division of Disney Television Studios. Karey Burke, president of 20th Television, praised Oppenheimer’s work, stating she had “shepherded Tell Me lies for two intensely addictive seasons that fueled an incredible wave of obsessive fan and social conversation.”
Tell Me Lies is currently streaming on Hulu.
