Teen’s Death: Soccer Coach Linked to Alcohol Poisoning

Soccer Coach Charged with Murder After Teen Dies of alcohol Poisoning

Los Angeles, CA – June 30, 2025 – Mario Edgardo Garcia Aquino, 43, a youth soccer coach, has been charged with murder with special circumstances, possibly eligible for the death penalty, in connection with the death of 13-year-old Oscar Omar Hernandez, known as Omar. The shocking development comes after a medical examiner determined Omar died from “acute alcohol intoxication” [[1]].

The case began in late March when Omar took a train to Lancaster to visit Garcia Aquino, his coach with the Hurricane Valley boys soccer club.When Omar failed to return home, his family reported him missing.A joint investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI led to the finding of Omar’s body in a roadside ditch in Oxnard in early April [[1]]
