Santiago Teen, Aspiring Doctor, Dies in Accidental Shooting
Santiago – Crismailyn Paulino Alonzo, a 13-year-old with dreams of becoming a doctor, was fatally shot on Friday afternoon in the La Herradura neighborhood of Santiago. Crismailyn was a second-year high school student also pursuing studies in nursing.
The tragic incident occurred after 3:00 PM at her aunt’s home. Preliminary reports indicate her 14-year-old cousin accidentally discharged a firearm while the two were watching television in bed, striking Crismailyn in the throat.
Josefina Adames, the grandfather of the shooter, described the scene as one of shock following the gunshot. “the event occurred in a family surroundings, and those present were in a state of shock after hearing the shot,” she stated.
Family, friends, and classmates remember Crismailyn as an exemplary young woman, deeply involved in her church as a dancer. She was the eldest of five siblings and had already experienced the loss of her father. her sudden death has left both families and the wider community in mourning.
Crismailyn’s remains were released to her family on Saturday and will be laid to rest in a Christian burial in the coming hours.
The 14-year-old cousin has been detained by the National Police.The Public Ministry is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting to determine obligation and trace the origin of the firearm.
