Ted Lasso Season 4 Twist Reveals Zelda As The Ultimate Villain
Ted Lasso Season 4, Episode 9 reveals that Zelda Southport has been working to buy out AFC Richmond, with actor Jude Mack confirming in an exclusive interview with cbr.com that the series required a villain and praising Tracey Ullman’s casting.
Zelda Southport Emerges as the Secret Majority Buyer
The latest episodes of Ted Lasso on Apple TV center on Rebecca Welton, Leslie Higgins, and Zelda Southport attempting to discover who has been trying to purchase AFC Richmond. While early suspicion fell on Rebecca’s ex-husband Rupert, Episode 9, titled “Mae Rides the Bus,” uncovers that Zelda has been working against Rebecca since the beginning to acquire a majority share of the club’s shares. To secure complete victory, Zelda must convince the Milk Sisters to surrender their 2.9% ownership stake, which would cement her position as majority owner.
Jude Mack Praises the Addition of a Comedy Villain
Discussing the major plot twist with cbr.com, actor Jude Mack noted that the production needed a distinct antagonist because audiences enjoy watching one. “Well, I think we love a villain. We do. We love a villain,” Mack said. “Who better than Tracey Ullman to be that fucking crazy villain? It’s such a great turn, and I think she’s sort of been playing a villain the whole time. That’s kind of the genius of her work. She’s sort of an evil bitch, and that’s the gag. The fact that it’s like, ‘Oh, my God, of course, it’s her,’ I think is really funny and smart. That’s the team’s villain going forward.”

Unresolved Stakes Ahead of the Season 4 Finale
With only a single episode remaining in Season 4 and no official fifth-season renewal announced, Zelda faces a tight window to win over the Milk Sisters before the season concludes. Mack declined to comment on potential renewal plans, stating, “Nothing that I can say. I’m so sorry. I can’t say a single thing about that, but we’ll find out if we find out.” Meanwhile, Mack expressed enthusiasm for a hypothetical standalone episode centered entirely on Boots, pointing to previous character-focused episodes in the series like “Rainbow” and “Beard After Hours.” Ted Lasso Season 4, Episode 10 streams on October 7.
