The military club faces possible demotion due to unpaid debts, a progress that would maintain Técnico Universitario’s position in the top flight despite their recent on-field struggles.
Técnico Universitario was officially relegated on November 29, 2025, following a loss against Manta. However, the fate of El Nacional remains uncertain, creating a scenario where the club’s financial woes could alter the league’s composition. The LigaPro regulations stipulate relegation for teams failing to meet financial obligations, and El Nacional has reportedly defaulted on debt payments on three occasions.
According to reports from ‘Bi-Tri,’ el Nacional has fulfilled one of the required payments and is awaiting further news regarding the remaining debts. If El nacional is ultimately relegated due to these financial issues,Técnico Universitario would remain in Serie A.
