Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” Release Party Dominates Box Office, Reveals Album Insights
LOS ANGELES, CA – Taylor Swift’s concert film documenting “The Eras Tour” is projected to lead weekend box office grosses, even as her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, is poised to shatter streaming and sales records in 2025. The “release party,” as producers have termed the event, avoids the label of ”film” despite its theatrical distribution and revenue tracking.
The event offers a behind-the-scenes look at the making of The Tortured Poets Department, revealing the inspiration behind several tracks. Swift described “Actually Romantic” as “a love letter to someone who hates you,” explaining, “Sometimes you don’t no that you are a part of someone else’s story, but you are. And then kind of there can be this moment where it’s unveiled to you through things that they do that are very overt.” She added with a kiss to the camera, “I’ve just started to be like, ‘Oh my God… you did so much with this… it’s flattering. I don’t hate you and I don’t think about this, but thank you for all the effort, honestly. Wow. That is very sweet of you to think about me this much, even if it’s negative. Like, in my industry, attention is affection, and you’ve given me a whole lot of it, so…”
Swift also discussed “Cancelled!,” stating she “wanted to write a song about how you can become wiser for it and how you can become sharper… I definitely judge people a lot less now that I’ve been under the microscope for so long. I just judge people based on who I know to be their actions, not some sort of general consensus where people are like, ‘step away, they’re radioactive.’ I’m just like: not gonna do that. I’m gonna do that if somebody proves that they’re not a good person.”
The album’s sole duet, featured on the title track, includes a collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter. Swift explained her choice, saying Carpenter is “so good at moving through backlash or criticism or people being unfair to her or picking her apart. She has the temperament to pivot and use it as fuel.” Swift continued,”I really feel like she’s got the same mentality as what this song (is) about: having a love for the game that overrides how hard this can be.” carpenter reportedly took days off from her own tour in Sweden to record the duet, a gesture Swift lauded as “a showgirl” move, adding Carpenter’s response was, “‘Are you kidding? I’m dead. Yes, of course.'”
