The scheme involved the undocumented immigrant, identified as Martinez, falsely claiming income tax returns. In exchange for his services, Cruz received thousands of dollars in fees from Martinez.
Martinez has pleaded guilty for his involvement and received a six-year prison sentence. Cruz is slated for sentencing on November 17, 2025, and faces a potential penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
