Tarleton State Tennis Dominates ACU classic, Securing Four Draw Championships
ABILENE, TX – Tarleton State WomenS Tennis delivered a dominant performance at the ACU Classic this weekend, claiming victories in four of the tournament’s draws. The Texans showcased both veteran leadership and promising freshman talent, setting a strong tone for the fall season.
The ACU Classic, a key early-season tournament, provides a crucial opportunity for Tarleton State too gauge its competitiveness against a field of Texas-based programs. Success at this event signals positive momentum as the team prepares for increasingly challenging competition, including the upcoming ITA Texas Regional Championships at TCU.
Freshman Elodie Medviedieva led the charge in singles play,going a perfect 6-0 throughout the tournament. She secured wins over UTA’s Bruna Casasampere (6-1, 6-3) and Sam houston’s Isabella Garza (6-3, 6-2) before defeating Natalia Gonzalez of UTA (6-4, 6-3) to win her draw. Fellow freshman, leonie Minetti, mirrored Medviedieva’s success, also finishing September with a 6-0 record. Minetti won a tight quarterfinal match and than defeated Ella Fitcher of Sam Houston in straight sets (6-4, 6-3), culminating in a Flight G championship win over Anna Klimova of New Mexico State (6-1, 6-3).
Senior Emma Persson and sophomore Maria Castano also reached their respective draw finals. Castano overcame a first-set loss to defeat Texas Tech’s Ella Brownback in three sets (3-6, 6-2, 6-4) in the Flight A semifinals. Persson battled back from a 0-6 first set to defeat Stephen F. Austin’s Ksneia mamontova (0-6, 6-4, 7-5) in the Flight B semifinals.
In doubles competition, the duo of Kuscu and Medviedieva clinched the Flight D title with victories over Stephen F. Austin, New Mexico State, and Sam Houston, including a tiebreak win in the first round. The Morales/Minetti pairing also reached the Flight C final before falling to Louisiana Tech.
Tarleton State will continue its fall schedule at the ITA Texas Regional Championships hosted by TCU, beginning October 9th.
