Tammy Slaton’s Mental Health Battle: Medication Side Effects Revealed

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor

“1000-Lb. Sisters” star Tammy Slaton has attributed recent emotional outbursts and a fractured relationship with family and her fiancée, Andrea Dalton, to medication imbalances following significant weight loss. Slaton revealed in a recent episode of the TLC reality show that her prescriptions had not been adjusted to reflect her reduced body mass, leading to a manic-depressive state and a mental health crisis.

According to Slaton, she sought multiple therapy sessions and underwent blood tests after a conversation with Dalton. These tests revealed that her existing medications were inducing a state of mania and depression, ultimately causing a mental breakdown. “It put me in a state of manic depression and just broke me down mentally,” Slaton stated on the show.

Five medications were discontinued entirely, and the dosages of remaining prescriptions were significantly reduced. Despite these adjustments, Slaton indicated she is still working towards regaining her emotional equilibrium. Her brother, Chris Slaton, expressed surprise at the medication changes but encouraged her to continue prioritizing her well-being, noting that her improved mental state would benefit those around her.

The show as well depicted Slaton grappling with intense anger, describing instances where she experienced “blackouts” and said things she didn’t recognize. These episodes contributed to strain in her relationship with her sister, Amy Slaton, and prompted Amy to question Tammy’s role as Maid of Honor at her upcoming wedding.

Initially, Tammy expressed concerns about whether she would even be invited to Amy’s wedding, fearing she was only included for Andrea’s sake. She worried about feeling out of place at the celebration. She decided to attend to support her sister, telling Andrea, “I had to be there for her. Since I love her. I’m proud of her,” even as shopping for Amy’s “something blue” wedding accessory.

The situation with Andrea Dalton has also been fraught with difficulty. According to a report from TVShowsAce.com, Andrea has been hospitalized three to four times in one month due to the stress caused by Slaton’s behavior. Fans have accused Slaton of abuse after Andrea revealed that Slaton had ripped closet doors off their hinges. Andrea has reportedly told Slaton to seek aid or she will depart the relationship. Old mugshots of Dalton have also resurfaced, as reported by Parade.com, revealing a past criminal record.

As of January 6, 2026, Season 8 of “1000-Lb. Sisters” is airing on TLC, promising further exploration of the family dynamics and Slaton’s ongoing journey.
