Tallon Griekspoor has withdrawn from the Dubai Open final, citing a hamstring injury sustained during his semifinal victory over Andrey Rublev on Wednesday. The Dutchman, who upset the world No. 18 in straight sets 7-5, 7-6 (6), was scheduled to face Daniil Medvedev for the title.
Griekspoor initially signaled discomfort to his physio during the first set against Rublev, and received medical attention after winning the opening set. He continued to compete, battling through further challenges in the second set tiebreak, ultimately securing his place in the final. However, the injury proved too severe to allow him to continue in the tournament.
The withdrawal marks a setback for Griekspoor, who had been enjoying a resurgence in form after a difficult latter half of the 2025 season. He had previously reached the quarterfinals of the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam earlier this month, defeating Alexander Bublik and Jakub Mensik en route to the last four.
Rublev’s run to the semifinals included wins over Valentin Royer, Ugo Humbert, and Arthur Rinderknech. Griekspoor’s victory over the Russian was his third career win against Rublev.
The injury also casts doubt on Griekspoor’s participation in upcoming major American tournaments, though no specific events have been named. Further updates on his condition and recovery timeline are expected in the coming days.
Daniil Medvedev, who advanced to the final after a walkover against an unnamed opponent, will now await a recent challenger for the Dubai Open title.
