Takeoff’s Mother Seeks Quavo and Offset to Testify in Settlement Case
The Bitter Battle Over a Slain Rapper’s Estate
Titania Davenport wants Quavo and Offset on the witness stand.
The legal battle centers on how to divide the financial settlement stemming from the fatal shooting of the 28-year-old artist at a Houston bowling alley on Nov. 1, 2022.
A Jurisdictional Tug-of-War From Texas to Georgia
The dispute involves a fundamental disagreement over where the legal proceedings should take place.
Davenport filed requests to move the case from Houston, Texas, to Georgia, arguing that key witnesses, including fellow Migos members Quavo and Offset, reside near Atlanta and Athens.
Neither Quavo nor Offset has been confirmed as a testifying witness, and it remains uncertain whether either rapper will take the stand as the venue motion proceeds. Meanwhile, Patrick Xavier Clark faces criminal charges for Takeoff’s murder in a separate case.
Davenport Challenges Ball’s Claim to the Settlement
At the heart of the civil disagreement is Kenneth Ball’s claim to a portion of the wrongful death settlement.
Davenport challenges that claim directly through court filings, asserting that her relationship with Takeoff was exceptionally close. She maintains that she raised him as a single mother, providing stability throughout his childhood and receiving financial support from him during his adult life, including bill payments and other direct assistance.
Conversely, Davenport alleges in her filings that Ball provided negligible financial support and effectively no emotional support while their son was growing up. The former couple remains deadlocked over the distribution of the settlement funds.
Managing Multi-State Legal Complexities
The civil disagreement adds another layer of legal complexity following the death of the Migos member, whose killing on Nov. 1, 2022, sent shock waves through hip-hop.
