Takefusa Kubo announces surprise marriage to actress Haruka Fukuhara
Takefusa Kubo announced his surprise marriage to Japanese actress Haruka Fukuhara on October 2 through a personal social media post, reported Interfootball. The announcement from the Real Sociedad midfielder comes as he struggles with a loss of form and declining playing time at his club.
Surprise Wedding Announcement Surprises Fans Across Japan
The marriage announcement caught the public and media off guard, as no prior dating rumors had linked Kubo and Fukuhara. Fukuhara, born in 1998, began her career as a child actor in 2005 and has since built a diverse portfolio spanning acting and voice acting, earning widespread recognition for her bright persona. In his statement released on October 2, Kubo shared that the couple has supported each other since childhood, indicating a long-term relationship kept away from public scrutiny. “Ever since we were young, we have been able to get this where we are today thanks to the help of many people,” Kubo wrote on his personal social media account, as cited by Interfootball. “We are still inexperienced, but we want to build a warm home filled with smiles, not forgetting our gratitude to everyone and helping each other.”
Athletic Struggles Preceding the Announcement
The news arrives during a difficult phase in Kubo’s professional football career. After joining Real Sociedad on a permanent transfer, the midfielder established himself as a central figure in the attack, recording nine goals and seven assists across 35 La Liga matches during the 2022-23 season. He maintained his production in the subsequent campaign with seven league goals, four assists, and two goals in the UEFA Europa League, drawing attention from top clubs including Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. However, production slowed over the following two seasons, and after a subdued campaign with the Japan national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, he did not secure a summer transfer. Remaining at Real Sociedad for the current season, Kubo has yet to record an attacking contribution and was left out of the starting lineup for two consecutive matches, remaining unused on the bench during a fixture against Valencia.
