Florida Woman Left Unable to eat, Speak, or Leave Home After Complicated Surgery; Husband Files Suit
Miami, FL – A Florida woman is facing a drastically altered life after undergoing a cosmetic procedure that her husband says has left her a “shell of her former self.” Daaidys Peña, a retiree, suffered a severe lung embolism following surgery intended to enhance her appearance, and her husband, Fernandez, has filed a lawsuit against the clinic and the doctor involved.
The case highlights the growing risks associated with cosmetic surgery, particularly when performed by practitioners lacking specialized training. According to Fernandez, Peña underwent the procedure hoping for a refreshed look, but the outcome has been devastating. “She will never be able to eat, speak or go alone again,” Fernandez stated.
Doctors at the hospital treating Peña are confident the lung embolism was directly caused by the surgery. A critical detail revealed by Fernandez is that the doctor who performed the operation is not a board-certified plastic surgeon and, according to Fernandez, lacks the necessary approvals to perform such procedures.
The lawsuit, filed through attorney Lavenia Santos of WSVN, alleges the clinic misled Peña into believing the doctor was a qualified plastic surgery specialist. “Based on the details of the employees… every reasonable person could have believed that the doctor was a specialist in plastic surgery, although this was not the case,” Santos explained. “Peña was never able to ascertain that the man was not a specialist. it’s just wrong.”
This isn’t the first time questions have been raised about the doctor’s practices.WSVN reports he was previously investigated following the death of another patient post-operation, though the investigation was ultimately closed without charges.
Currently, neither the doctor nor the clinic have publicly commented on the allegations. The doctor’s lawyer released a statement claiming his client no longer works at the clinic and that the accusations are unfounded.Fernandez’s motivation extends beyond legal recourse. “She was the first and only love of my life,” he said, expressing his hope that the doctor will acknowledge the harm inflicted upon his wife and prevent similar tragedies from befalling other women.

This case underscores a growing concern within the medical community: the increasing prevalence of cosmetic procedures performed by individuals without the requisite expertise.
