Kuala Lumpur – Indonesian Ambassador Hermono refuted claims that โฃPresident Prabowoโ Subianto shortened his trip โto โMalaysia for the 47th Asean โขSummitโ following a โmisidentificationโฃ by Malaysian state broadcaster RTM. Hermono stated Prabowo’s return to Jakarta on Sunday was due to a “tight domestic agenda,” as confirmed by Indonesia’s foreign โคministry โคspokesman Yvonne Mewengkang.
The clarification comes after an RTM commentator โคmistakenly referred to Prabowo as his predecessor, Joko Widodo, duringโ live coverage โฃof the summit in Kuala Lumpur. RTM also incorrectlyโฃ identified โthe prime ministers of Singapore and Thailand, prompting an apology from the communicationsโ ministry’sโ broadcasting department, which pledged to strengthen editorial controls and โfact-checking.
Initially โขslated โคto attend the entirety of theโ summit, Prabowoโฃ participated in โthe 26th Asean-South Korea Summit, the 28th Asean โฃPlus Three Summit, andโข a reception for Timor-Leste’s entryโฃ into the โคregional โฃgrouping before his departure. Heโ is now represented byโค Cabinet ministers includingโ Foreign Minister Sugiono andโค coordinating Economy Minister Airlangga Hartarto.
During the โsummit, Prabowo attended the Asean-US Summit where US President Donald Trump reaffirmed Washington’sโข commitment to the Indo-Pacific region.โ Heโ also advocated โfor constructive regional competition and increased cooperation at the 28th Asean Plus Three Summit, and urgedโค the bloc to take concrete action regarding the crisisโ in Myanmar during โthe Asean leaders’ retreat.
