Venezuelan opposition Leader Calls for Global Demonstrations Following Nobel Recognition
OSLO – Venezuelan opposition leader Marรญa Corina Machado is โcalling for a worldwide march this Saturday, December 6, to celebrate the Nobel โPeace Prize awarded to Venezuelan activists and to advocate for peace and freedomโฃ in Venezuela. The demonstrations are planned โขin at least 24 countries, including multiple cities across Spain โlike Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante, Zaragoza, and Valencia.
Machado stated, “This Saturday we have a โgreat chance,โฃ we are going to ratify this message inโข the march for peaceโฃ and freedom. while the regime โtries to hide this unbelievable โachievement, this recognition that the entire world givesโ to us Venezuelans, we are going to turn onโค a light in the main cities of the world.โ Every torch,every candle,every light is going to be a cry for the peace andโข freedom of Venezuela.” โขShe added, “See โyou this โcoming Saturday, December 6, โand that day the world will no โคwhy the Nobel Prize is ours.”
The Venteโข Venezuelaโค (VV) party, led by Machado, is organizing the event. While international rallies โare confirmed,โข VV’s communications โขteam has indicated that plans forโฃ demonstrations within โคVenezuela are โon hold due to safety concerns related to potential government repression.
The Nobel committee has confirmed Machado’s travel to Osloโ to receive โฃthe award. โฃThough,Jรธrgen Watne Frydnes,a โขleader of the Committee,cautioned that the trip is “dangerous” as โthe Maduro regime has allegedlyโค expressed intent to prevent herโฃ return to โVenezuela,emphasizing the need to ensure her safety during โขtravel and upon her return.
Machado โhighlighted the international โฃrecognition as โrepresenting “the โdemocratic struggle, citizen organization, the ability โขto continue standing in the face of oppression and thatโค conviction โthat Venezuela was born toโค be free.” She urged continued advocacy, stating, “You and โI know that this is a recognition that calls usโ to be even more firm โคto complete the task to achieve the freedom โof Venezuela.This requires that all the time, โคon โฃall possible platforms, we elevate our cause.”
