Jakarta – Chelsea‘s significant financial investment under owner Todd Boehly appears to be yielding positive results, as the club demonstrates improved form and stability.
Since acquiring Chelsea for £3 billion in 2022 following Roman Abramovich’s departure due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Boehly has spent nearly £1.5 billion on player acquisitions. Abramovich, who revolutionized Chelsea during his 20-year ownership with five Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies, set a high bar. Boehly initially mirrored Abramovich’s approach by bringing in numerous high-profile players, but also oversaw the departure of four managers, including Thomas Tuchel.
Chelsea endured a disappointing first season under Boehly, finishing 12th in the Premier League. Though, the club has shown signs of progress, winning the UEFA Conference League and Club World Cup last season under Enzo maresca.
“The club is calmer now, now Boehly is accepted,” stated Jorrit Meijer, leader of Chelsea supporters in the Netherlands, to Dutch media outlet NOS. “Now he is buying more talent.Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer and Estevao for example. It’s very fun to watch. There is also a clear transfer policy, no more panic.”
Currently, Chelsea sits in fifth place in the Premier League with 14 points and is in 11th position in their Champions League group with six points after a recent 5-1 victory over Ajax.
