Marquez Needsโ Thirdโข Manufacturer title to Cement GOAT Status, Says Lorenzo
Ducati Team – โค MotoGP legend Jorgeโ Lorenzo asserts that Marc Marquez willโค definitively secure his place asโข the greatest of all time (GOAT)โ if he wins a world championship with a third different manufacturer. The statement comes as Marquezโ continues his tenure with Ducati, โคwith speculation surrounding a potential โฃreturn to โHonda.
Currently, Marquez โฃand โคValentino โRossi are โขthe โmostโ frequently debated contenders forโข the โGOAT title,โ both holding nine worldโ championships – seven โin the premier class. Giacomo Agostini leads all riders with 15 world titles. both Marquez and Rossi have achieved their championships with two manufacturers;โค Marquezโฃ with Honda (six titles) and Ducati (one title โฃin โ2025),and Rossi โขwith Honda (three โคtitles) and Yamaha (four titles).
“Well, thereโ is โno doubt that this is an achievement thatโ further secures his position as at leastโฃ the top three racerโ in history, if not the โbest,” Lorenzo told AS. “Thereโ will always be people who remind you that โAgostiniโ has 15 world titles, and Marquez will โคprobably never surpass or match him. However, in terms of talent and speed, if we only consider those things -โค talent and speed โค- for me, he is the strongest,โ fastest rider inโค history.”
Lorenzo believes aโ championship with โKTM, โAprilia, โฃor Yamaha would remove any remainingโฃ doubt. “I’ll just say that; with this โtitle,he โคbecomes champion with two manufacturers.โข But if he wins โฃwith a third manufacturer, there will be no more doubts. Those who โquestion whether he is theโข bestโค in history will have no reason to deny it,” heโฃ stated.
Marquez is currently contracted with Ducati through โฃ2026, though discussions regarding a long-term extension are ongoing. Together,rumors persist linking the Spanish riderโ with a possible return to honda.
