Winter weather
Even more than 15 centimeters of snow in Finland – 2024-05-07 00:13:23
Attracted by the spring heat, the mouse ears will soon be covered in sleet, at least in the north and east.
Variety is the spice.
If the old saying is to be believed, the past spring has been refreshing. It has never been boring.
In the current week, spring will continue its delay, when chilly air, night frosts, snow and sleet are expected.
Cold air has flowed into Finland from the north, and the week is going to be cool for the time in the whole country. Night frosts are experienced all the way to the south. The weather is chilly this week.
– Cool day temperatures and occasional night frosts can be expected throughout the country, says the meteorologist Joanna Rinne On Foreca’s weather blog.
Tomorrow night it will be mostly 1-5 degrees below zero across the country.
Snow and sleet
In addition to the coolness, rain arrives in Finland, which also comes as snow and sleet.
Solid rain is expected especially in the north and east. Snow and sleet may also fall in places in the central and southern parts of the country, at least in the southeast direction.
– On Tuesday, sleet and snow showers will occur not only in the north, but also in the southeast and east of the country, on Wednesday still in the east and southeast, Rinne says.
According to the forecast, during Thursday and Friday, the rain area will move over Finland and bring 5–10 centimeters of snow to Lapland in the course of two days. In some places in Lapland, it can snow up to more than 15 centimeters.

Up to 10 degrees below zero
Tuesday evening will turn cold. On the night before Wednesday, the whole country will be clear and cold.
– It is widely 1–10 degrees below freezing, locally even more. According to the current forecast, the coldest temperatures are in Lapland and in the direction of Kainuu and Koilismaa, Rinne says.
In low wind and clear weather conditions, there can be large local differences in the frost readings.
On Wednesday, it will be sunny in a large part of the country, but there are also snow and sleet showers in some places.
– There will be snow and sleet showers in the afternoon in the southeastern and eastern parts of the country. In the evening, the weather will clear up.
During the day on Wednesday, temperatures will be 5–9 degrees in the southern and western parts of the country. In the east and north it is mostly 1–6 degrees. The night before Thursday is cold.
End of the week
At the end of the week, a cold air current will still blow from the north in Finland. According to the current forecast, rain is expected this weekend, both in the form of snow, sleet and water.
So Mother’s Day may be spent in cold weather and rain.
– Even on weekends, the weather in Finland is quite unstable, says Rinne.
No big change in temperatures is expected over the weekend. Also next week, the weather seems to continue to be cool and unstable.

Unbelievable May Day – It can get cold at times – 2024-05-02 11:32:35
In Helsinki, it reached close to 20 degrees.

May Day has been the warmest for many years, Foreca says.
On May Day Eve, the highest temperature, 19.3 degrees, was measured in Helsinki’s Kumpula. The highest temperature on May Day, 18.6 degrees, was measured in Kankaanpää. In the south, 15 degrees were generally exceeded.
According to the Finnish Meteorological Institute’s road statistics, temperatures of 20 degrees were last experienced on May Day in 2008.
The last few holidays have been quite rough. On Corona Day 2020, the temperature remained below ten degrees throughout the country.
Koleus returns
After the warm May Day, we will return to colder weather, says Foreca.
The weather will become a little more unstable and the cloudiness will increase on Thursday. In the south, it is still possible to reach 15 degrees.
It is cooler in the east and north.
On Thursday, rain and sleet will initially spread to Lapland, on Friday to the eastern part of the country. In the east, the daytime temperature varies from five degrees in North Karelia to 10–15 degrees in South Savo, Foreca says.
In Lapland, the daytime temperatures at the end of the week are between 0 and 7 degrees.

The weather for the next few days looks like a real herring salad.
The weather saga, which varies from one extreme to the other, is covered in Foreca’s weather blog. According to the blog, the beginning of the week includes snow flurries, advancing spring heat records, as well as 30-degree frosts.
Bad driving weather and heat
On Monday, it will rain in Ostrobothnia, North Ostrobothnia and Kainuu. It is snowing in Lapland and Northeast Finland, in some places a maximum of 10-20 centimeters. According to Sääblog, in the northern parts of the country, you should be prepared for even very bad driving weather and 0-10 degrees below zero.
Deafening rains and readings of 1-10 degrees occur in the Central Finland region.
In the south, the weather remains overcast, and the readings can rise to 9-11 degrees. If the sun peeks out from behind the cloud cover, the mercury may rise to 15 degrees. This would be the highest temperature of the advancing spring so far, as a reading of 13.1 degrees was measured last Saturday in Åland.

Heavy rains and back winter
On Tuesday, a new area of rain will spread from the west to the southern and central parts of the country. In the south, the rains appear as water, but in central Finland, snow and sleet are gathering. A gusty northeast wind is also blowing in the areas.
According to Foreca, the rains can reach heavy rains. The definition of heavy rain is 20 millimeters of water per day, while Tuesday’s total rainfall can reach 15-30 millimeters converted to water.
In the rest of Finland, the weather is cloudy and cloudy.
Snowfall to the south

On the night before Wednesday, the north-east wind will strengthen even more, bringing wind speeds that reach storm limits to Åland and the southwestern sea areas. The temperature of the whole country drops to freezing at night, in Lapland the lowest is minus 30 degrees.
To the south, the blower brings snow with it, even though in the very south the proportion of snow in the rain is small. The snow layer will probably melt away quickly.
Koleus continues throughout the country throughout Wednesday. The weather will change to dust in the morning at the latest.
In the southern and central parts of the country, Gusts can sometimes be up to 15 meters per second.

The north of Spain is suffering from the consequences of storm Juan. In combination with a temperature of 13 degrees below zero in Soria, this resulted in heavy snow showers.
