TOKYO – the draw for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World cup 2026 Qualifying Tournaments has been completed, outlining the paths โfor โnations vying for a spot in the 2026 Worldโค Cup in Berlin, Germany. The qualifying tournaments, to be held March 11-17, 2026, will see 24 teams compete for 16 available berths.
The tournaments will be hosted across four cities: Istanbul,Turkey; Lyon,France; San โJuan,Puerto Rico; and Wuhan,China.
Qualifying Tournament Groups:
* Lyon, France: โฃFrance (3), Nigeria (8), Germany (12), south Korea (15), Colombia (19), โขPhilippines (39)
* San Juan, Puerto Rico: USAโ (1), Spain (6), Puerto Rico (13), Italy (14), New Zealand โ(21), Senegal (25)
* โ Wuhan, China: Belgium (5), China (4), Brazil (9), czech Republic (17), Mali (18), South sudan โค(55)
The top four teams from each city will advance to the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026. Teamsโค that have already secured qualification as continental cup winners or the host nation, Germany, are denoted with a โ and will participateโ in the final tournament regardless of their qualifying tournament results.
The FIBA Women’s โBasketball World Cup 2026 โขwill be held in Berlin, germany, from September 4-13, 2026. The โtournament format will feature a group phase with four groups of four teams,followed by aโข quarterfinalโ and final phase.
Japan previously qualified for the 2022 tournament, finishing in second place in their qualifying group. Prior to that,qualification wasโ determined โฃby continental โขcup results. Japan has participated in 14 total FIBA Women’s Basketballโฃ World Cup tournaments,with a best finish of ninth place in 2022 and reaching the final in 1975.
