A 48-year-old Swiss climber died Sunday morning in a fall while ascending the “Morgamutsch” route on the Schofbergwand in Wildhaus, St.Gallen, Switzerland.
The incident occurred shortly before 10:45 a.m. The climber was navigating the route with two companions when he fell several meters. Emergency responders were alerted immediately.
Rock Fracture Triggered Fall
Preliminary investigations by authorities indicate that a section of rock unexpectedly broke loose during the climb, causing the climber to lose his footing and fall. He sustained fatal injuries as a result.

Rega, switzerland’s air-rescue service, and the Alpine Rescue team of Eastern Switzerland deployed specialists via helicopter to the scene.
