Thailand’s Shinawatra Faces Prison, France’s Prime Minister Loses Confidence Vote
Bangkok, Thailand – Thaksin Shinawatra, patriarch of the influential Shinawatra family that has dominated thai politics for two decades, was sentenced to one year in prison on September 9th. He returned to Thailand on a private jet to face the Supreme Court’s verdict after unexpectedly leaving the country last week following his party’s stepping down from power.The conviction represents a significant setback for the family’s political dynasty.
The news comes as France faces a deepening political crisis. Prime Minister Gabriel Attal failed to survive a vote of confidence in the National Assembly,with 364 members voting against his government and only 194 expressing support. Attal proposed a 2026 budget aiming to cut spending by 44 billion euros,sparking strong opposition and ultimately leading to the failed confidence vote. He is the fourth prime minister to serve under president Emmanuel Macron since his re-election.
