A new adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on Wednesday, March 4th, offering a glimpse into the detective’s formative years. “Young Sherlock,” directed by Guy Ritchie, stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the titular role.

The eight-part series, based on Andrew Lane’s “Young Sherlock Holmes” novels, portrays a 19-year-traditional Holmes at Oxford University, described as “raw and unfiltered” and lacking discipline. The narrative centers on a murder investigation that threatens Holmes’s freedom and unravels a global conspiracy, according to a synopsis released by Amazon.

Ritchie, known for his action-oriented filmmaking style, serves as both director and executive producer. Matthew Parkhill is the showrunner and also an executive producer. The production involves a number of companies including Inspirational Entertainment, Motive Pictures, and Amazon MGM Studios.

The cast includes Dónal Finn, Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons, and Colin Firth, the latter of whom plays Sir Bucephalus Hodge. The series was filmed in the United Kingdom.

Prime Video has released initial images from the series, showcasing the early adventures of the iconic detective. The show is described as an “irreverent, action-laden mystery” that explores the origins of Sherlock Holmes. According to Amazon, the series will be available to stream starting at 9:00 AM on March 4th.

The series is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com, with a content advisory noting the presence of flashing lights, violence, frightening scenes, substance use, alcohol use, smoking, foul language, and sexual content.
