NEW YORK — A crane collapse at an Amazon warehouse in a northern suburb of New York City sent two people to a local hospital, authorities said Friday.

Emergency services rushed to the construction site before 1 p.m. in Hawthorne, a tucked-away village in Westchester County off Saw Mill River Road.

A preliminary investigation revealed one person suffered a minor injury and another suffered “a more serious leg injury,” Mt. Pleasant Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi said.

Helicopter footage of the scene showed the large red crane slumped to the ground next to the warehouse. What caused the crane to collapse is still being investigated.

Work on the site is on hold while investigators look into what happened.

Los local reports from last year identify the location as home to a forthcoming 150,000-square-foot distribution center for a mix of office and warehousing space.

NEW YORK — Police have identified the victim of a fatal accident in which a truck with trailer fell from a flyover in suburban New York toward the freeway lanes below on Wednesday.

The incident took place on the Cross Westchester Expressway in the Westchester County town of Harrison around 10:20 am, according to the New York State Police.

NBC 47 and its sister network NBC New York were on the scene where damage was seen to the overpass and the tractor-trailer was completely overturned on the road below in the westbound lanes of I-287, with debris lying around. everywhere. “As soon as dispatch came in, you knew it was serious and you knew it was bad,” White Plains Deputy Fire Chief Adam Caponera said. “It’s one of those things as a firefighter…immediately guys go into that work mode. They know what they have to do and they can’t get there fast enough.”

Caponera said firefighters and police officers from across Westchester County went to work, freeing the driver of the van who had the front end crushed, impacted by the falling truck.

The driver of the tractor-trailer died, while an occupant of the other vehicle on I-287 was taken to the hospital, police said.

According to the New York State Police, the road closures as a result of the “serious car accident” are expected to be “significant.”

NEW YORK — A small plane crashed near the Westchester County Airport Thursday night, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, killing both people on board.

The single-engine plane, an A36 Beechcraft Bonanza, took off from New York City’s JFK Airport just before 5 pm and was headed for the Cuyahoga County Airport in Richmond Heights, Ohio, the FAA said in a statement. The pilot reported that he had low oil pressure at 5:25 pm and then reported engine trouble when the plane was about a mile from Westchester County Airport.

Minutes later, the White Plains airport lost contact with the aircraft.

There were two people, the pilot and a passenger, on board the plane when it crashed, sources told NBC 4 New York. After searching the wooded area for hours, county officials confirmed the plane had been located, with the two people inside.

The pilot and passenger died in the crash, county officials said. The focus of the search was near the north end of Rye Lake, off Cooley Hill Road in Armonk. The plane was found in trees near the airport.

The aircraft’s tail number is traced to the T&G Flying Club in Ohio. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

It was not immediately clear what caused the accident. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide updates.
