West Dunbartonshire Council Deploys New Multi-purpose Gritters Ahead of Winter Season
West Dunbartonshireโ Council is bolstering its winter preparedness with the deployment of five new multi-use gritters, โready too tackle icy conditions and support โคyear-round road maintainance. The vehicles, purchased earlier this year, represent a strategic investment in resource efficiency, eliminating the need for costlyโฃ vehicle hire. Already utilized for tasks such as pothole repair throughout the year, the gritters are now primed for winter action.
These new vehicles feature multipleโ bodies, allowing them to adapt to various road maintenance needs.โ Councillor David McBride, Convener ofโ Infrastructure, Regenerationโ and Economic Development, highlighted the value of the investment: “It is great to see these new multi-use vehicles getting ready for action this winter. They have already been showing their worth.” The Council is also reminding residents to prepare forโ winter conditions.โ
The โคCouncil encourages residents toโ prioritize safetyโ during the colder months. Key recommendations include equipping vehiclesโ with a car emergency kit containing a first aid kit,โฃ battery jump leads, a torch, a map, a blanket, a โคreflectiveโ warning โsign, an ice โscraper, de-icer, a shovel, warm clothing, food, and a warm drink.
Residentsโ are โalso advised to familiarize themselves with the Council’s priority primary gritting routesโข and the locations of grit bins, information available online atโฃ https://www.west-dunbarton.gov.uk/roads-parking-travel/gritting-and-grit-bins/winter-maintenance/.โ
Councillor Lawrence O’Neill, โฃVice Convener of infrastructure, Regeneration & โคEconomic Development, emphasized the proactive approach being taken: “The teams areโข busy monitoring โคdetailed weather forecasts to understand what action needs to be taken โand โwhen. We hope residents are ready too so if iceโ and snow hits, the impact is not as severe as it might โคbe otherwise.”
