Ryan Garcia vs Mario Barrios: Date, Time & How to Watch WBC Title Fight

Ryan Garcia floored Mario Barrios with a right hand inside the first 30 seconds of their WBC welterweight title fight in Las Vegas on Saturday, setting an immediate and dramatic tone for the contest.

The fight, held at T-Mobile Arena, represents Garcia’s third attempt to capture a world title, following a no-contest result against Devin Haney in April 2024 due to a failed drug test and a unanimous decision loss to Rolando Romero last May. Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) is seeking to secure a 147-pound crown after previous bids at lightweight and welterweight.

Barrios (29-2-2, 18 KOs), making his fourth defense of the WBC welterweight title, entered the fight having gone to consecutive draws against Abel Ramos in November 2024 and a surprising draw against the 46-year-aged Manny Pacquiao in July. He initially won the WBC interim title with a victory over Yordenis Ugas in 2023 and was elevated to full champion when Terence Crawford was named champion in recess by the WBC.

The bout was preceded by a late change to the undercard. IBF super lightweight champion Richardson Hitchins was ruled out of his scheduled co-main event title defense against Oscar Duarte due to an unspecified illness. Both fighters had successfully made weight for the bout, with Hitchins at 149.4 pounds and Duarte at 149.6 pounds. Hitchins had captured the title from Liam Paro in December 2024 and successfully defended it against George Kambosos in June.

As a result of Hitchins’ withdrawal, the junior welterweight title bout between Gary Antuanne Russell and Andy Hiraoka was elevated to the co-main event.

Garcia stated during Friday’s pre-fight press conference that he felt fully prepared, stating, “I’m ready now as a person and as a fighter” to become the best world champion he could be. He emphasized the personal significance of winning the title for his father, who is now serving as his head coach.

Barrios, with former trainer Joe Goossen in his corner, expressed confidence in his experience and skillset, stating, “I bring the experience – I have more tools in my arsenal, and there’s more to my style.” He as well suggested that Garcia’s strengths have been a limiting factor in his career thus far.

The fight is available on DAZN pay-per-view and Main Event in Australia, with ring walks expected between 3-4pm AEDT.
