Suspect arrested Following Abduction and Armed Robbery in Williamston, SC
WILLIAMSTON, S.C. – A suspect is in custody following an abduction and attempted robbery that occurred at the Stop N Go gas station located at 103 Greenville Drive in Williamston, South Carolina, on Wednesday afternoon.Williamston Police Department officers responded to a call around 2:10 p.m. regarding the incident. They were informed that a victim had been abducted and the suspect was believed to be armed.
Investigators determined that the suspect had forced an individual into a vehicle and drove them to the gas station, intending to compel them to withdraw funds from the ATM.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers located both the victim and the suspect inside the store. the suspect was standing near the victim and was instantly taken into custody without resistance.During the initial response, a second individual was present in the rear of the store. The victim reportedly shouted, “That man has a gun in his car,” prompting officers to briefly detain this person as a precautionary measure while they assessed the situation.Authorities quickly determined the individual was not involved in the crime and released him unharmed, offering an apology for the inconvenience.
“We want to make it clear that this person was an innocent bystander who happened to be present during a crime in progress,” a police spokesperson stated. “We extend a sincere apology to him for any inconvenience. No police response is ever perfect, and in this case our officers made the decision they believed necessary at the time to safeguard everyone involved.”
The suspect is facing multiple charges, including:
Kidnapping
Attempted Robbery
Trafficking crack and cocaine
Felon in possession of a firearm
* Possession of a firearm during a violent crime
