Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has witnessed unstable weather recently, with many reports of rain, hail, and torrential rain.
In the past weeks, scenes of the atmosphere witnessed by the various governorates of the Kingdom have spread on social media platforms, including stunning scenes shared by Saudi photographer Raed Al-Awfi, via Twitter.
The heavy rains east of Medina formed what Al-Awfi described as “lakes in the heart of the desert.” (Watch the video clip above).
The Saudi used to visit an area that enjoys distinctive sand dunes east of Medina, to take a walk in it after it rains.
Accompanied by his friends, the Saudi went to it to document it immediately, on Saturday morning, after learning that there was a lake in it.
In an interview with CNN in Arabic, the photographer said, “We arrived at the lake after traveling 30 kilometers into the desert.”
The group was amazed by the scene in front of them, and Al-Awfi hurried to document it with a “drone”, saying: “After the drone reached a height of 300 meters, I discovered the presence of several other lakes, so that everyone was amazed again.”
And after the fog clears in the released video, a magical aerial view of the sand dunes mesmerizingly punctuated by water appears.
The video clip surprised Twitter users, who praised its magnificence.
Al-Awfi was not only satisfied with documenting the scene, but he was also keen to relax at the site until sunset, according to what he said.
Al-Awfi expects these lakes to remain for at least a month, unless rain falls in the area again.
The Saudi entered the world of photography 25 years ago.
In addition to documenting the natural and archaeological monuments in the Kingdom, the photographer also loves documenting weather conditions, such as rain, torrential rain, snow, and waterfalls.
