New Berlin – โA traffic stop attempt by New Berlin police escalated into a pursuitโ ending with a crash at โthe Hale Interchange on I-43 Wednesday. Theโ driver, a 36-year-old man from โEast Troy, โคwas arrested after fleeingโ the scene.
The incident beganโฃ when officers responded to a report of a possible intoxicatedโข driver in the parking lot of a gas stationโ on College Avenue near Racine Avenue. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, theโ driver sped away, initiating a chase northbound on I-43โ toward Milwaukee.โ The vehicleโ ultimately crashed into a concrete โฃbarrier at the โHale Interchange, went โoff the roadway, and the driver fled on foot.
With assistance from the Greenfield Police Department, officers locatedโ and arrested the East Troy man. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the โฃcrash and was transported to a local hospital.No officers were injured duringโข the pursuit or arrest.
Authorities suspect drugโข impairment was a contributing factor in the incident.Northbound trafficโ at the Haleโ Interchange was slowed for approximately two hours while lawโข enforcement investigated the crash and managed traffic flow. โฃThe Milwaukee County Sheriff’sโ Office assisted โwith โtraffic control and documentation. The incident remains under inquiry.
