Cape Town braces for meaningful water disruptions as maintenance work impacts several areas.
The City of Cape Town has announced planned maintenance that will lead to water supply interruptions in specific areas.
Saxonsea, Avondale, and Robinvale will experiance a complete water outage from 8:00 to 17:00 on Tuesday, July 15th.This is due to rehabilitation work and the installation of new water mains on the infrastructure serving these communities.
In Kirstenbosch, a contractor will conduct a test shut-off of the water main in Bishopscourt from 10:00 to 14:00 on Tuesday, July 15th. This precedes a full shut-off scheduled for Wednesday, July 16th, from 9:00 to 16:00. These disruptions are necessary for the installation of a new connection to the existing water supply infrastructure. Residents in Kirstenbosch Drive, St Albans Close, Riverside Road, and surrounding areas will be affected during both periods.
Moreover, the Glen Garry Reservoir will be shut down for its annual cleaning and maintenance from Monday, July 14th, untill Friday, august 15th, 2025.The City emphasizes that this process is crucial for maintaining water quality and safety. During this extended period, an alternate water supply will be rerouted to the Glen Garry area, but at a reduced pressure. The Wemmershoek Water Treatment Plant will supply the Wemmershoek pipeline, and the Blackheath Water Treatment Plant will supply the link pipeline, with the combined output feeding the Tygerberg Reservoir.
