FLY – Russia will regard Greece’s plan to supply Ukraine with the S-300 air defense system previously obtained from Moscow as an “overtly hostile act”.

This was confirmed on Sunday (12/18/2022) by the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry (Kemlu), Maria Zakharova.

Greece has considered sending Soviet-era weapons to Kiev if the United States agrees to replace them with the MIM-104 Patriot system.

“It would be a serious violation of the … Russian-Greek agreement … on military and technical cooperation,” Zakharova said.

He added that the 1995 and 2013 agreements signed by Moscow and Athens in this area “explicitly prohibit Greece from re-exporting military equipment supplied by Russia without Moscow’s consent”.

“Trampling on its commitments under the agreement will certainly have consequences,” a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman warned.

“Such a move would also contradict the position of the majority of Greeks,” he said, adding that polls say 70 percent of Greeks are against “pumping Ukraine with weapons.”

Though Zakharova did not cite her sources, a poll by Greek broadcaster Mega TV in March showed that about two-thirds of Greeks oppose sending military equipment to Kiev.

MINSK – Belarus is now armed with Iskander ballistic missiles and protected by the S-400 air defense system.

This was announced by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Monday (12/19/2022). He thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for delivering new weapons as promised by Moscow.

“Today we implemented the S-400 system and most importantly the Iskander system that you handed over to us, as promised six months ago,” Lukashenko told Putin at a joint news conference in Minsk.

Putin, as well as Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, arrived in Belarus on Monday for talks with their counterparts on economic, military and energy cooperation.

During their press appearance, Putin revealed that the two countries have built an integrated air defense and warning system, of which the S-400 battery is an important element.

“The Belarusian pilot will soon receive training in the use of special weapons and special ammunition,” Putin said and Lukashenko confirmed.

“I must say that we have prepared the plane. As it turned out, we have had such an aircraft since Soviet times, we have already tested it in the Russian Federation. Together with Russia, we are now training crews capable of flying aircraft capable of carrying this special payload,” Lukashenko said.

While no one uses the word “nuclear,” Putin pointed out that NATO introduced the practice decades ago.

NEW YORK – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says proposals to expand the UN Security Council are “under consideration”.

However, he warned that some of the West’s suggestions to limit the veto power of its members, aimed at Russia, risk failing.

Speaking at his latest press conference in 2022 on Monday (12/19/2022), Guterres said that while membership in the Security Council could be expanded, none of the five permanent members of the body, namely the United States (US ), Great Britain, China, France and Russia risk losing their veto.

Any plans to change this right can be blocked by any of these countries, using the same veto power.

The United Nations Security Council is made up of 15 members, ten of whom hold office for two years and cannot veto resolutions.

Formed in 1945, the United Nations Security Council can impose sanctions, authorize military action and refer cases to the International Criminal Court, but only with the unanimous consent of the five permanent members.

Russia has advocated for a more diverse UN Security Council for years, with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov last year advocating giving developing countries more seats to break the West’s disproportionate grip.

Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, repeated this argument last week, telling the council that “democratization can only be achieved through increased representation of African, Asian and Latin American countries.”

MOSCOW, KOMPAS.com – An officer Russia admits that the Russian troops were exhausted in the war in Ukraine.

The official is Andrei Gurulyov, a member of the lower house of the Russian parliament, aka the Duma. He is also a former Russian military general.

Gurulyov admits difficulties Russian Army in the war in Ukraine while talking to the Russian government TV channel.

The recorded video of the interview was translated and uploaded to Twitter by the reporter BBC Francesco Scarr on Sunday (12/18/2022).

“There are things that cannot be denied. We are well aware that they have supplied Ukraine with goods,” Gurulyov said, referring to Ukraine’s Western allies.

“It starts with helmets and bulletproof vests. Then firearms, ammunition and then howitzers,” Gurulyov continued, as reported Newsweek.

He complained that Ukraine was receiving military aid from the West, which he attributed to changing the course of the war.

“Next, HIMARS, and now the Patriot system. Next is the Abrams or Leopard tank. It does not matter. Everything will come at some point. All of this will come,” Gurulyov said.

Gurulyov complained that Russia’s current military strategy can only be wary of every weapon supplied by the West to Ukraine, instead of devising a strategy to counter the future.

“Unfortunately, in this sense, we are catching up. We survive. We are waiting for them to bring something and then find a way to fight them,” Gurulyov said.

Newsweek reportedly, Gurulyov’s remarks were the latest indication that the Russian invasion had faltered.

Throughout the conflict, there have been reports of Russia struggling to maintain a well-motivated and trained force.

This week, Ukraine said it had contacted more than 1 million Russian troops hotline surrender.

International relations professor at the University of Southern California Robert English said Newsweek that there are many people in Russia who are aware of Moscow’s military mistakes.

Thus, says English, Russian officials “continue to lie” about the reality of the conflict.

“So admitting that the Russian army is stalled and has suffered heavy losses is inevitable,” said English.

He concluded that recognition was inevitable especially if the Kremlin was to prepare its people for months of war.

“Paradoxically, to maintain the support of even more selfless audiences, they must recognize the enormous sacrifices that have been made. It might not work, but they have to try,” said the Englishman.

The ghost of the Soviet Union still haunts the United States

FLY – Russian Ambassador to the United States (US) Anatoly Antonov said US support for Ukraine was motivated by a Cold War-era desire to weaken Russia and subjugate Europe.

Antonov told Newsweek on Saturday (12/17/2022). However, he predicts that a new “multipolar world” will emerge.

Speaking to the US magazine a week after the Pentagon announced a new $275 million arms package for Ukraine, Antonov said Washington “seems to need to continue to assert itself through competition with Russia”.

He explained, “The Pentagon’s latest national defense strategy portrays Russia as a major threat to US interests and requires the US military to equip itself to win in a conflict against Moscow if deterrence fails.”

“It appears that the ‘ghost’ of the Soviet Union still haunts the corridors of power in the American capital, and the Cold War is by no means over,” Antonov told Newsweek.

He explained: “Many politicians here still think and act according to the laws of that historical period. They believe that the restoration of Russia’s international prestige with the ascent to power of Vladimir Putin in our country has become a ‘headache’ for Washington.”

“With the conflict in Ukraine, the United States is in a better position to apply a ‘fixed idea’ to weaken Russia,” Antonov said.

He stressed, “It is much easier to consolidate society in the United States and the West as a whole around the image of a ‘foreign enemy who undermines the values of a democratic world.'”

“At the same time, the United States could use Russia to justify its unprecedented military spending, undermining the mutually beneficial relationship between Russia and Europe, making the latter completely dependent on Washington,” he said.

KIEV – President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that Ukraine is now psychologically ready to forcibly recapture the Crimean peninsula from Russia.

Zelensky revealed this to French broadcaster TF1 in an interview on Sunday (12/18/2022).

“The reconquest of Crimea should have started in the head of the Ukrainian people,” Zelensky said.

He has hinted that he could visit the “unoccupied” peninsula as early as 2023.

“The operation itself hasn’t started yet,” Zelensky said when asked about Kiev’s plans for Crimea.

“When it starts, you will definitely feel it,” he told TF1.

He said that he personally believed: “The reconquest of Crimea began in people’s heads, and this is very important.”

According to Zelensky, it is not enough for Kiev to repeatedly declare the peninsula part of Ukraine.

He stressed that Ukraine must be ready to take it back by force because Russia will not surrender.
