BEIJING – President of China Xi Jinping he told his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin that path to peace continues Ukraine it won’t be smooth. Xi also assured that China will continue to maintain an “objective and fair attitude” on the matter.

Xi said Beijing and Moscow should coordinate and cooperate closely on international affairs and stressed Russia’s willingness to engage in negotiations over Ukraine, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said in its report on the phone call between the two men.

“The Chinese side has noted that the Russian side has never refused to resolve the conflict through diplomatic negotiations, and has expressed its appreciation for this,” Xi said on a CCTV video call, quoted by Reuters on Friday (30/ 12/2022).

Xi and Putin have in recent years been drawn together by a shared distrust of the United States and its allies, evidenced by a declaration in early February of a “borderless” strategic partnership that sent warnings to the rest of the West.

But, after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February, China has publicly emphasized that it is in no way a party to the conflict. And, in September, after the Russian military faced several battlefield setbacks, Putin publicly acknowledged that Xi had “questions and concerns” about the war.

Putin said in comments on Russian television that he aimed to boost military cooperation with China, but made no mention of military cooperation in the CCTV call report.

The “borderless” description of Sino-Russian relations is frowned upon in Beijing, at least in public, as it seeks to circumvent Western sanctions for aiding Russia’s war effort.

Xi made clear the ideological affinity between Beijing and Moscow when it comes to opposing what they both see as the US-led hegemonic West.

“Facts have repeatedly shown that detention and repression are unpopular and that sanctions and interference are doomed to failure,” Xi told Putin.

“China is ready to cooperate with Russia and all the progressive forces in the world who oppose hegemonism and power politics, and firmly defend the two countries’ sovereignty, security and development interests and international justice” Xi continued.

FLY – Government Russia said on Friday (12/30/2022) that he was very concerned S-300 anti-aircraft missile the Ukrainian who was shot down after flying into the airspace of a close ally; Belarus, Thursday.

The Belarusian Defense Ministry said on Thursday that its air defense forces shot down a Ukrainian S-300 surface-to-air missile near the village of Harbacha in the Brest region, about 15 kilometers from the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.

It came as Russia launched dozens of missiles at cities across Ukraine in one of the conflict’s major attack waves.

“This is an incident that causes extreme concern, not only for us, but also for our Belarusian partners,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in Moscow’s first public comments on the incident, as quoted Reuters.

The S-300 is a Soviet-era air defense system used by Russia and Ukraine. In November, a missile believed to be deflected after being fired from a Ukrainian S-30 air defense system, including during a massive Russian missile strike, landed on NATO member Poland, sparking escalation fears that were quickly defused.

Belarus allowed Moscow to use its territory in February as a staging post for Russian troops and equipment at the start of what Russia called a “special military operation” in Ukraine.

There has also been an intensification of military activity from Moscow and Minsk in Belarus in recent months.

Peskov on Friday stressed the close military ties between the two countries, saying the two countries are in constant dialogue and coordination.

Minsk, however, insists it is not participating in the conflict in Ukraine and will not participate unless its own security is threatened by Ukraine or its Western allies.

A Ukrainian military spokesman acknowledged the missile was a missile belonging to Kiev forces, saying the incident was not a strange one, the result of air defense and something that has happened more than once.

Previously announced, a missile of the S-300 air defense system launched by the Armed Forces of Ukraine has fallen on Belarusian territory.

“The fall of the S-300 missile was recorded between 10:00 and 11:00 local time (07:00 and 08:00 GMT),” Belarusian state news agency Belta reported on its Telegram channel.

“Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko was immediately notified of the incident and ordered to identify the cause,” media reported.

There are two versions of the report currently circulating, according to Belta. The missile either accidentally entered Belarusian territory, as happened recently in Poland, or was shot down by the Belarusian Air Defense Forces.

“There is still no information about the cause of the crash,” the report said.

FLY – The United States (USA) has informed Russia that it will not send American troops to operate the Patriot air defense system in Ukraine.

This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister (Minister of Foreign Affairs) Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday (12/28/2022) on Channel One Russia.

According to Lavrov, Russian diplomats received these assurances from Washington through “embassy channels.”

“We asked the Americans through channels that our embassy still has, if their decision to deliver Patriot batteries (to Ukraine) means that American specialists will come, because they are complicated to use,” Lavrov said.

Russian diplomats then received an “extensive briefing,” during which US officials assured them they had no such plans, according to Lavrov.

“It is precisely because America does not want to and will not go to war directly against Russia that the Patriot (system) will be operational only in a few months, once the Ukrainian military masters this technology,” Lavrov said.

Still, Moscow has no illusions about the extent of US involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Lavrov said, adding that “dozens or even hundreds of American servicemen” are currently on Ukrainian soil.
