President Volodymyr Zelensky says Ukraine shot down nearly 90 Iranian kamikaze drones in two days

KIEV – Ukraine shot down 89 kamikaze drone artificial Iran , also known as Shahed-136, in two days. This was directly stated by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

“It’s only been two days into the year and the number of Iranian drones shot down over Ukraine is already over 80,” Zelensky said in his presidential address on Monday.

“This number could increase in the near future. Because in these weeks the nights can be very restless,” he added, quoting from NewsweekTuesday (3/1/2023).

Zelensky warned that Russia was planning a sustained attack with Shahed’s drone.

“The bet could be on tiredness. To the exhaustion of our people, our air defense, our energy sector,” she said.

“But we must ensure – and we will do everything for this – that this terrorist cause fails like any other.”

KIEV – Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko has accused the Ukrainian authorities of grossly underestimating the risk of a Russian military attack in early 2022.

The official told Der Spiegel his call at the time to improve the capital’s civil defense went on deaf ears.

In an interview with German media published on Friday, Klitschko complained that while he was “pushing through civil defense” and insisting that Ukraine “should prepare”, the government had continued to say “everything will be fine” not long before Russia launched its military operation at the end of February.

According to the Kyiv mayor, some officials even criticized him at the time for “inciting panic”.

He went on to say that this attitude is widespread among Ukrainian officials, despite warnings from Western and Ukrainian experts.

Despite indications of a premeditated attack dating back to late 2021, the Ukrainian government is still “shocked at how quickly Russia has reached” Kiev, according to Klitschko.

Kyiv’s mayor acknowledged that there was a sense of panic and chaos in the Ukrainian capital in the first 24 hours of the Russian attack.

When asked who he held responsible for the mess, he said: “Now is not the time to look for the culprits.”

According to him, all flaws and mistakes will be analyzed “after the victory”.

FLY – President Vladimir Putin accuses the West of using Ukraine break down and weaken Russia .

“The West is using the Ukrainian people to divide Russia and weaken it; we will never let that happen,” Putin said in his New Year 2023 address to his people on Saturday (12/31/2022), as quoted Sputnik.

He argued that morality and historical truth were on Russia’s side.

Putin’s allegations came after he revealed last week that Russia was open to talks with all sides about a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. However, he said, it was Kiev and its Western allies that refused to negotiate.

“Our policy of opposition to geopolitics, which aims to divide Russia, is at the root of the Ukrainian conflict,” Putin said.

Russia rejects using a war narrative for its actions in Ukraine in favor of a “special military operations” narrative. Putin stressed that Russia is doing the right thing in Ukraine.

“I think we are acting in the right direction: we are protecting our national interests, the interests of our citizens, our people. And we have no choice but to protect our citizens,” she said.

On the same day, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu delivered a New Year 2023 message to the Moscow military. In his message, he emphasized that Russia’s military victory over Ukraine was inevitable.

FLY – Minister of Defense (Menhan) Russia Sergei Shoigu declared his military victory over Ukraine it was inevitable when he praised the heroism of the Moscow army in a video message for the new year 2023.

Soigu, who has been widely criticized by pro-war voices in Russia over the failure of Moscow’s troops on the Ukrainian battlefield during a 10-month military campaign, said the situation on the front remained difficult and criticized the Ukraine and the West for trying to rein in Russia.

“We are welcoming the new year in a difficult military-political situation,” Shoigu said.

“At a time when someone is trying to erase our glorious history and great achievements, destroy the monument to the victor of fascism, put war criminals on a pedestal, nullify and desecrate everything Russian,” he said . ReutersSaturday (31/12/2022).

With bloody fighting going on on a 1,000-kilometre (600-mile) front and Russia gaining no territorial gains from the first months of the war, Shoigu told the Russian military: “Victory, like the New Year, is inevitable.” .

Shoigu also praised the “enduring deeds, selfless courage and heroism” displayed by Russian troops fighting what he termed “neo-Nazism and terrorism”.

Kiev and the West have dismissed Russian claims that Moscow troops were fighting “Nazis” in Ukraine as an unsubstantiated pretext for President Vladimir Putin’s attempts to seize territory and overthrow Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in aggression unprovoked.

Moscow had hoped for a quick victory in what it called a “special military operation,” but Ukraine’s fighting spirit and billions of dollars in Western arms aid helped Kiev turn the tide of war and stage a series of astounding counter-offensives.

Ukraine has now recovered more than half of the territory occupied by Russia during the first weeks of the invasion.

Retired General Ben Hodges, a former US Army commander, wonders why Joe Biden’s government is allowing Russia to want to destroy Ukraine. Photo/REUTERS

WASHINGTON – A former United States (USA) general was stunned by the attitude of President Joe Biden’s government, which allowed Russia at will fire missiles against Ukraine .

Retired General (retired) Ben Hodges, a former US Army commander, made the comments in light of Thursday’s Russian missile attack reportedly involving a 9K720 Iskander short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) .

After the attack, the Russian Defense Ministry promised that Moscow would never run out of Kalibr missiles.

Former SEAL Six Team squadron leader, Chuck Pfarrer, formerlytweets that SRBMs were launched from Russian-occupied areas inside Ukraine and were targeting nearby cities. The missile comes from Russia and can cover a distance of up to 500 kilometres.

“Why did we allow the Russians to shoot cover?” asked Hodges on Friday.

“Not providing ATACMS [Sistem Rudal Taktis Angkatan Darat], [jet tempur] F-16 and other long-range strike capabilities in Ukraine, we are basically providing cover for Russia capable of killing innocent civilians in Ukraine without fear of consequences. Unsustainable policy,” Hodges allegedly said NewsweekSaturday (31/12/2022).

In an announcement in line with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent visit to Washington, US officials confirmed that Patriot air defense systems will eventually be delivered to Ukraine.

The Patriot missile system battery, described as a potential game-changing defense system, is capable of intercepting Iskander missiles and other air strikes launched on behalf of the Russian military.

Ukraine’s air defenses made another show of force on Friday morning. Ukrainian officials said their Air Force shot down 16 Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones, prompting an airstrike warning instructing residents in the Kyiv, Cherkasy and Kirovohrad regions to take cover.
