“If Russia continues to dominate the Black Sea and block it with missiles, then Ukraine will do the same, which is a fair defense of our capabilities,” Zelensky said, according to Ukrinform news agency.

“If they keep shooting, we don’t have many guns, but if they keep shooting, they may not have ships at the end of the war. And this is what we want to show them,” he added. Al ArabiaTuesday (8/8/2023).

Zelensky said that since Russia found themselves in a position where they could not win, they wanted to drive Ukraine into a stalemate using their weapons.

“Therefore, Ukraine will definitely respond to any attack on the civilian population and the grain corridor,” he stressed.

Zelensky claimed that Russia was trying to pursue a policy of colonizing the Black Sea and Sea of Azov but had no right to decide what Ukraine could produce and export.

Since Russia abandoned the grain initiative on July 17, Russia has repeatedly attacked grain storage and export infrastructure in Ukraine, causing damage to several grain warehouses and destroying thousands of tons of grain.

WASHINGTON – Retired general of the United States (US), Barry McCaffrey, criticized President Volodymyr Zelensky’s tough attitude in pressing NATO for accepting Ukraine as a new member.

According to McCaffrey, such a move actually benefits Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“For him to insist on this public stance, it seems to me stupid,” he told MSNBCwhich was launched on Wednesday (12/7/2023).

“It benefits Putin. He [Putin] wants to claim that he is fighting against NATO, not a criminal invasion from a neighboring country,” he said.

“So I think he is skiing here, and this is not good for Ukraine.”

Ukraine’s potential membership in NATO has been a sticking point between Kyiv and member states of the military alliance amid a NATO summit in Lithuania that started Tuesday.

Zelensky has pushed for a clearer timeline for when Ukraine could join NATO and has voiced frustration with the alliance’s leadership over its reluctance to extend an invitation to Kyiv that continues to resist a Russian invasion.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told a news conference Tuesday that Ukraine could only join the alliance after “conditions” were met, but gave no further details on those conditions.

KIEV – President Ukraine , Volodymyr Zelensky decried what he called the “ridiculous” denial NATO to offer his country a schedule to join that military alliance.

“There appears to be no desire to grant Ukraine an invitation to NATO or make it a member of the Alliance,” Zelensky wrote on Twitter.

“Doubt is weakness,” he continued as quoted from EuronewsTuesday (11/7/2023).

Zelensky said he had received a “signal” communiqué coming from the Nato summit in Vilnius not to pledge Ukraine membership after the war was over.

“The formula refers only to invitation, not accession of Ukraine,” Zelensky said of the statement being negotiated by NATO leaders.

He called it “absurd and unprecedented” that the declaration under discussion did not include a date for inviting Ukraine to join the Alliance.

Zelensky also complained that the declaration prepared by NATO leaders referred to conditions not only for Ukraine’s membership in NATO but only for the country to be invited to join.
