If you think having a piece of dark chocolate is the healthiest option, think again because a recent Consumer Report (CR) study showed that these candy bars can actually expose their consumers to harmful chemicals like lead and cadmium.

According to the American network “CNBC” and the translation of “Lebanon 24”, “This study tested 28 pieces of dark chocolate, which is usually recommended for its heart health benefits, to measure levels of heavy metals. This study concluded that lead and cadmium were present in all products and in all products. Here are five brands whose products contain high levels of lead and cadmium:

1 – Trader Joe’s: a bar of dark chocolate with 72% cocoa (192% of the maximum allowable dose of lead). and The Dark Chocolate Lover candy bar, which contains 85% cocoa (127% of the maximum allowable dose for lead and 229% of the maximum allowed dose for cadmium).
2 – Hershey’s: Special lightly sweet dark chocolate bar (265% of the maximum permitted lead dose).

3 – Lindt: Excellence dark chocolate bar made with 85% cocoa (166% of the maximum allowable dose of lead). and the Excellence dark chocolate bar composed of 70% cocoa (116% of the maximum permitted dose for cadmium).

4 – Godiva: Signature dark chocolate bar composed of 72% cocoa (146% of the maximum allowable dose of lead).

5 – Colomba: Promises Deeper dark chocolate bar composed of 70% cocoa (112% of the maximum permitted dose of cadmium).

According to the network, “Exposure to low levels of lead can have serious effects on children’s cognition, according to Dr. Fred Henretig, a senior toxicologist at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Exposure to high levels of lead can cause weakness, anemia, and kidney or brain damage, affecting children.” .

The secretary general of the Banks Association, Dr Fadi Khalaf, denied in a statement that “there is no truth to the news of the closure of the banks, which is currently circulating through social media”.
