The Impact of Excessive TV Watching on Children’s Health: New Study Reveals Alarming Findings

A recent study conducted at a University in New Zealand revealed that children watching TV for long periods of time may lead to serious diseases, including metabolic diseases and heart diseases.

Watching TV and screen addiction is a problem parents face with their children. Forbidding a child or limiting the times he spends watching TV is not easy, which raises parents’ concern because of the dangers it poses to children’s physical and psychological health.

A study conducted by the University of Otago in New Zealand, whose results were published in the journal “Pediatrics”, showed that children and adolescents sitting in front of screens and using them is associated with an increased chance of developing metabolic diseases when they become adults.

Metabolic syndrome is a group of conditions including high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat and abnormal cholesterol levels that lead to an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and stroke. According to what was published by the American (Science Daily) website.

The study tracked data from more than 800 people, and researchers found that those who watched TV for longer periods – those between the ages of 5 and 15 – were more likely to develop these conditions at age 45.
The lead supervisor of the study, Dr. Bob Hancox, said that the study does not indicate that television causes these bad health effects, but the reason may be the long time that children spend in front of screens, which leads to a lack of physical activity, and also indicates the possibility of the emergence of bad eating habits. Because of watching advertisements for unhealthy foods, according to what was published by the New Zealand “News Medical Life Science”.

Dr. Hancox added that sitting down to watch TV leads to a lack of activity, “and therefore an increased risk of weight gain and lack of fitness.” For this reason, doctors and specialists recommend organizing the times children spend in front of screens, encouraging them to move, increase physical activity, and ensure that they eat healthy food.

The Saida-Zahrani Region of the Lebanese Forces Denies False Accusations and Fake News

The Saida-Zahrani region of the “Lebanese Forces” issued the following statement:

A number of parties associated with a political axis that used to fabricate and slander, involved the “Lebanese Forces” party in the investigation that the specialized agencies are conducting about an association, in a manner contrary to the truth and related facts. They also marketed the news of the arrest of the mukhtar of the town of Hilaliyeh as the head of the “Forces” center in the town.

The Saida-Zahrani region in the “Lebanese Forces” categorically denies any connection between the party and all false marketing, and also denies that the mukhtar of the town is the head of the “forces” station in it, but rather one of the supporters. Fake news.

Journalist Abdullah Qamh wrote in a tweet on Twitter: “The director of the “Peace and Love” village association and her chosen partner (the mukhtar of the town of Al-Hilalia, Sidon district), sold a child to an expatriate person… For the full news, click here.

Asteroids as Potential Harbingers of New Life Forms on Earth

Russian astronomer Nikolai Zheleznyov, senior researcher at the Institute of Applied Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, does not rule out that asteroids will bring new forms of life to Earth.

And the scientist indicates, in an interview with the Russian Novosti News Agency, that asteroids do not necessarily carry living organisms, but rather molecular compounds that develop on Earth into new forms of life.

In response to a question in this regard, he says: “Of course, nothing can be denied.”

According to him, there is still no 100 percent certainty that at least some single-celled life has appeared on Earth with the help of asteroids.

And he adds: In fact, traces of life were not found in many of the meteorites fragments that fell to Earth, but scientists found in them the “building blocks” of amino acids, which allows the assumption of the presence of complex molecular compounds in asteroids.

The scientist points out that one of the hypotheses for the origin of life on Earth is that water was brought to Earth by comets, and that it may have contained molecular compounds that later evolved into single-celled organisms.

Hearing Aids: A Simple Procedure to Reduce the Risk of Cognitive Decline and Dementia

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com July 19, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

A recent study shows that there is a simple procedure that can reduce the chances of cognitive decline in people at risk of developing dementia.

The study, published in The Lancet medical journal, revealed that hearing aids can reduce the likelihood of cognitive decline by nearly 50 percent in people at risk of dementia.

Neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease are associated with hearing loss, but experts are not sure if the latter is a symptom or a cause of the disease.

How were the results obtained?

Nearly 2,000 research participants at such risk wore hearing aids for 3 years.
The participants ranged in age from 70 to 84 years, and completed tests that included language and memory, before the start of the experiment and then 3 years later.
Researchers found that hearing aids reduced risk by 48 percent.
As a result, those who led the study believe that up to 8 percent of dementia cases could be prevented by stopping hearing loss and wearing devices that improve it.
Professor Frank Lane, of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Bloomberg School of Public Health, said: “These findings provide compelling evidence that treatment of hearing loss is a powerful tool for protecting cognitive function later in life and may delay the diagnosis of dementia.”

“The benefits to cognition and cognition when treating age-related hearing loss are likely to vary, depending on the individual’s risk of cognitive decline,” Lin said.

Other experts noted that the findings add more evidence of the importance of maintaining brain activity, including in treating hearing loss.

The Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Bassam Mawlawi, issued a decision annulling the telegram issued by the Director General of the Internal Security Forces, Major General Imad Othman, linking the Information Division to Othman on an exceptional basis and for the necessities of service.

Armed with the law, Mawlawi found him writing to Othman asking him to retract his legal violation of the internal organization of the security forces and asking him to immediately retract his arbitrary decision, and request to immediately retract the measures taken and reconnect the information to the General Staff.

Because of Othman’s lack of action, Mawlawi issued the decision in which he canceled the telegram that was issued on June 27 due to his violation of the law, and the information is now in its normal place.
