Veteran Musician Vladimír Mišík Receives Two Awards,Admits Past Discomfort with Recognition
Prague - Singer and musician Vladimír Mišík,a cornerstone of Czech rock and folk music, received two awards over the weekend – a Český Slavík (Czech Nightingale) award for Song of the year and a lifetime achievement award at the Anděl music awards. The 74-year-old artist, known for his distinctive voice and poetic lyrics, expressed surprise at the accolades, revealing a long-held unfamiliarity with receiving such honors.
mišík entered the Hall of Fame at the karlín Music Theater’s Anděl Awards (then called Grams) in 1994, an honour he initially felt was premature. “It was basically for merit, but I thought it was a bit premature. It was my first award and for a long time the only one. But now it’s clear that it wasn’t the last,” he said. Despite his initial reservations, Mišík acknowledged enjoying recognition from both experts and fans.
The awards come as Mišík navigates a creative block, admitting he currently lacks inspiration for new music. “I don’t wont to make excuses for my health problems, even though these are things that don’t add much to a person’s appetite for writing and composing. The important thing is that I don’t find inspiration. I always look above me, looking for one, and it really isn’t there,” he stated. He emphasized that his motivation for creating music has always been personal enjoyment and livelihood, not the pursuit of prizes.
